With an array of stores and restaurants at Balboa Island, Mr G’s is a fresh newcomer; “Inspired by the nostalgic feelings of Sunday Suppers with family and friends” Mr G’s aims to please local residents with their hospitality, fresh ingredients, and high quality menu items.
The bistro has an intimate feel with an open window, perfect for people (or dog) watching. Once inside, don’t be surprised if you see Owner Giuseppe Accardi (Mr G) making his rounds at each table, conversating with guests, and making everyone feel very welcome! Their hospitality combined with Executive Chef Jason Elder’s creative dishes make Mr G’s a perfect lunch or dinner stop at Balboa Island.
Start your meal off with offerings such as their Burrata made with melon, prosciutto, mint, honey, and petite baguettes. A light and refreshing snack, perfect to share. They also offer other snacks deviled eggs, shishito peppers, and their popular meatball made by Chef Elder with a traditional recipe (and a twist of his own) passed down for generations within his family from Italy.
After snacking, comes these beautifully plated dishes made with fresh locally sourced ingredients that satisfies your tummy such as their Tagliatelle Bouillabaise made with wild prawn, saffron, tomato, and white wine. We also had the opportunity to try their Wild Halibut served with avocado mousse, cara cara orange, radish, frisee, and the sweetest strawberries we’ve ever eaten!
As they have a separate menu for lunch and dinner, you’ll always get a different experience at Mr G’s. In addition, they’ll be rotating out their dishes and desserts with the seasons to utilize the freshest ingredients they can offer, so definitely check them out!
