What makes Jimmy’s Famous American Tavern different than other restaurants?

Jimmy’s Famous is a small run family restaurant that originated in San Diego and has since grown to have 5 locations in California. Their a scratch made kitchen so a majority of the menu items you’ll see on the menu are made in house which includes their sauces and lemonades! If that wasn’t awesome enough, they’re also a Green Restaurant that support farms, ranches, and fisheries that align with their philosophy of utilizing locally raised, natural, and sustainable food products.

What are some of the items on the Jimmy’s Famous American Tavern menu?

Clam Chowder

Scratch made clam chowder made with red potatoes, pecanwood smoked bacon, cream, and served with house-made chips.

Fried Calamari

Crispy fried calamari served with Rosemary, serrano chiles, and side of chipotle aioli.

Spicy Poke

Made with avocado, scallions, citrus, serranos, tropical fruit, sesame seeds, wontons. The fun thing about this dish is that the tropical fruit changes according to season, from pineapple to papaya, you won’t be tasting the same Poke every season.

Fried Chicken Benedict 

One of their signature brunch menu items that’s served from 11AM – 3PM on weekends; the fried chicken benedict consists of two buttermilk biscuits, poached eggs, house-made sausage gravy. If you’re not a fan of biscuits, substitute it! Our server actually recommended us to sub them for english muffins to keep the bread from getting soggy.

French Dip

Their famous French Dip served with prime rib, gruyere cheese, crispy onions, and a side of creamed horseradish is a MUST TRY. The prime rib was perfectly cooked (none of that dry or chewy meat here) and the sandwich itself had a perfect ratio of all the fixings to satisfy any French Dip craving.

BBQ St. Louis Ribs

Served with a side of Jalapeño cheddar scalloped potatoes, baked beans, coleslaw, and a slice of cornbread. A 1/2 rack of these ribs is no joke! Definitely shareable and a great value for the price.

Catch their Happy Hour Monday through Fridays from 3pm – 6pm for discounted appetizers. If you’re looking for lunch, try their Lunch for a Cause combo which comes with a half sandwich and side for $14; where $1 from each combo sold will be donated to Miracles for Kids.

In addition to their regular menu items, Jimmy’s Famous changes up the ingredients of some of their dishes to go with the seasons and to provide the freshest produce at the time. You’ll also find different Chef Specials at each Jimmy’s Famous as they love to experiment with new dishes catering to each chef’s specialty to introduce new flavors to your taste buds!
