You read that right! Due to popular demand Porto’s Bakery has just introduced their new Bake at Home delivery service for you to bake some of their popular pastries fresh at home.
What is Porto’s Bakery?
Porto’s is a popular Cuban bakery with 4 existing locations in Calfornia at Glendale, Burbank, Downey, and Buena Park. The bakery sells Cuban savory and sweet pastries, beautiful cakes, drinks, and sandwiches.
What pastries are currently available for delivery?
Refugiado (Guava and Cheese) – Flaky pastry filled with guava jam and cheese

Cheese Roll – Sweet flaky pastry filled with dough

Guava Strudel (Pastel de Guayaba) – Flaky pastry filled with Porto’s signature guava jam

Dulce De Leche Besito (Kisses) Cookies – Flaky butter tart dough with Porto’s own dulce de leche and dusted with powdered sugar

Meat Pie (Pastel de carne) – Flaky puff pastry filled with picadillo (ground beef, onions, peppers, and Spanish seasoning)

How do I order online?
To get them delivered, you’ll have to order a minimum of 2 items and depending on how many items you order, the shipping price will differ (although the price of 2 dozen and 3-4 dozen are the same!) You can find more details on their website here.
How does it come delivered?
The box is delivered straight to your door in a cooler that’s kept cold with a bag of dry ice. Each item is in it’s own signature yellow Porto’s bakery box and comes frozen ready to bake. You’ll also receive wax paper for each item and baking instructions.

Is it simple to bake and how does it taste?
For someone who considers themselves with beginner level knowledge of baking, this was actually a very simple process. The pastries come ready to bake and do NOT need to be thawed at all after removing from the freezer.

The first step was to line the baking sheet with the wax paper provided. For 2 orders, I received 4 wax papers to use.

After the oven is pre-heated to the specified temperature, toss your frozen goodies in there and watch them bake. They don’t look like much now, but in 20-45 minutes (depending on the specified baking time), you’ll be surprised!

And VOILA!

Your freshly baked Porto’s pastries are ready to serve and after sharing them with the family, it was a clear consensus that they were just as tasty as the ones found in the bakery.
Although the prices are a tad higher than those in the bakery, the convenience of having them in your freezer to be baked at any time makes up for that. My first thought was that they would make a great gift to send to someone who doesn’t have access to a Porto’s near them or for serving to guests at gatherings and parties as they smell and taste so delicious and fresh!
